The use of illicit drugs by teens has skyrocketed in the past two decades, and the illegal abuse of prescription medications has also been on the rise.  As you might imagine, this creates a sort of epidemic in child health care and psychological damage caused by drugs that can permanently damage the brain, cause depression, and even bring about the need for hospitalization if rehab or detox is needed.  Since teens generally do not have a fully developed frontal lobe, known by developmental psychologists as the seat of judgement, they often are incapable of determining accurate consequences for their actions.
